Finding a Doc On The Road

So, say you’ve booked the family trip of a lifetime. You’ve thought of everything, but do you have the name, address, and phone number of a qualified doctor who speaks English in wherever?

It’s estimated that 20 percent of all travelers get sick annually, and of these, five percent require emergency care overseas.

It’s smart to know about IAMAT’s (International Association for Medical Assistance for Travelers) services because in case of illness abroad,. IAMAT publishes a list of qualified doctors in more then 90 countries and 350 cities worldwide.

On the other hand, many Travel Insurance plans provide the same services.

Except, IAMAT services are free!

One has to be an IAMAT and a donation in any amount is appreciated.

IAMAT is a non-profit organization dedicated to travel health, and solely relies on donations from individuals to continue its work.

The IAMAT membership card guarantees that travelers receive proper medical attention at an affordable price – $100 for a clinic call and $150 for a hotel call – well below the going rates typically charged to tourists.

Doctors affiliated with the non-profit organization are general practitioners fluent in English, are fully licensed, and are trained according to international health standards.

What IAMAT provides:
- consult a IAMAT member in need of emergency care
- make referrals to specialists in all fields of medicine
- provide medical reports
- report to your own doctor
- make house / hotel or night calls
- make consultations on Sundays or local holidays.
